A Design Proposal for the Granville Island Arts and Innovation Hub

CMHC-Granville Island recently issued a public “Call for Ideas” to refine the long-term vision for the Arts & Innovation Hub. In response, VSIR submitted a five-page proposal to build a state-of-the-art facility that promotes creative community-building, strengthens Granville Island’s iconic status, and enhances the city’s innovation capacity. The proposal calls for the establishment of Knowledge Hub and Learning Interchange in the north building of the former Emily Carr University of Arts and Design (ECUAD), a 120,000 ft2 wood structure.

The new facility would serve as a community gathering place for turning ideas into action to create the conditions to realize a better future for Vancouver. The proposed concept framework creatively links together arts, culture and local marketing concepts and findings presented in the Repurposing Strategy that reflect stakeholder consultations, the architectural and planning analysis as well as the CMHC Granville Island’s guidance.
